All Continental allure; the wife of actor Tony Curtis
Beautiful from any angle, I first laid eyes on Christine Kaufmann fifty years ago, when I saw the movie, Taras Bulba. I thought I had never seen anything so beautiful and the memory of her then fragile beauty was recently revived when I came across these photographs by Bert Stern in the October1, 1965 issue of Vogue. She was a breathtaking beauty. Slim as a reed, with a delicate flawless complexion and huge baby-blue oval eyes. Her co-star, Tony Curtis - himself the owner of killer blue eyes rimmed with charcoal black lashes, fell instantly in love with the German beauty. The thirty-seven-year-old Curtis was married at the time to Janet Leigh. They had two daughters, Jaimie Lee Curtis and Kelly Lee Curtis.
Christine was only seventeen years old when they met. They married a year later in a small ceremony in Las Vegas with Kirk Douglas as Tony's best man and wife Anne Douglas serving as Maid of Honor.
Tony Curtis said of Christine: "There was a freshness about her, an exuberant joy in living that made me go all funny inside. To me, she represented all those girls I would have liked to have dated when I was a poor kid living in New York."
